I’m Motivated: I Can’t Wait Any Longer To…

Motivated

Necessity is the mother of invention. Oftentimes, we can’t see what’s missing until we are placed in a position where all we can see is what is missing. On February 28th 1888, John Boyd Dunlop purchased a tricycle for his son on his birthday. Those were the times of cobbled streets in Scotland. His son complained of having headaches while riding the tricycle because of the uneven terrain and hard tires. This gave him an idea of using an inflatable rubber tube to cushion the ride. Although he was a veterinarian surgeon, he started developing a tube made of canvas and bonded in liquid rubber. Soon, the rubber tube “pneumatic” tire was born. Dunlop himself coined the term, “pneumatic.” To this day Dunlop Tires is still a thriving business.

Purpose is the springboard to fulfillment. In the same way that necessity precipitates many inventions, the purpose inside of you should facilitate your desire to do something. It may even lead you to invent something to meet a need. The reason that your purpose is so important is because it often allows you to see something in society in a way that no one or very few people can see it. This means you can see a solution where others don’t even recognize a problem. Until you release your purpose, which can come in the form of an invention, a book, a business, a ministry, or some other creation you will likely never feel fulfilled in life. Don’t stifle your happiness by being afraid to unleash your purpose.

An entire industry has been created around motivational speaking and has spawned thousands of books and numerous seminars every year all centered around getting people to be motivated – motivated to do something. When the something is undefined, the motivation tends to decline. The moment you understand why you are motivated to do a certain thing, that is the moment that everything begins to make sense and your life begins to take shape.

THE TIME IS NOW

They say there’s no time like the present. While that is true, our motivation to accomplish our goals needs to be done decently and in order. Motivation doesn’t mean just get it done – it means plan well so it’s done correctly. There is a tendency of some companies to invent something and then when that has issues, invent another invention to fix the issues caused by the original invention. It is important to be motivated but we have to make sure that the proper reigns are placed on our eagerness to complete our assignment. I know that a large part of my purpose is to help others live in theirs. For that reason, I continue to learn, read, and put the necessary systems in place so that I am best able to accomplish this task. Tomorrow is promised to no one so we need to maximize each day. 10 hours of preparation this week can save you 10 days of headaches in the future.

THE NEED IS NOW

Sometimes life can hit us and we can lose sight of why we were motivated in the first place. If your purpose is to empower young people there are many factors that can hinder your motivation such as bad attitudes, behavioral issues or parental difficulties. It is in these moments that we have to remember the passion we had when we finally discovered our “why”. Why did you feel compelled to be the change agent in their lives? If your purpose is to build a business, what gap did you first see that motivated you to fill that niche? If the need was present then, how much more necessary is it now? The world needs passionate leaders in every industry and in every avenue of life who not only possess answers to the world’s problems but also the tools to implement them.

Ask yourself, “what do I need to do?” What thoughts are compelling you to take action even if you’ve been slow to do so? Don’t allow fear or uncertainty to delay the delivery of the purpose that is inside of you. Necessity is the mother of invention. So what invention are you carrying in your belly that the world is waiting on? Author Leo Buscaglia said, Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.
